Identification : Psychoanalytic and Biological
نویسنده
چکیده
In the recent attempt to bring psychoanalysis into contact and shared understanding with other sciences, there have been a number of works explicating neural science concepts and phenomena – affect, memory, consciousness for the psychoanalyst. These have enriched our field and helped to build a scientific foundation for our theory and practice. The present paper tries to accomplish another related task, namely to take a psychoanalytic concept and see how it relates to other sciences. Identification has a long history in psychoanalytic theory. We see it in parent-child interactions, in teaching and mentoring relationships, and in psychoanalysis and therapy. We may find information about this phenomenon by looking into other sciences. In neuro-psychology and evolutionary biology, we may gain some information about the phylogenetic precursors of identification. In genetics and infant research we may gain insight into individual identification processes. And in 1 . It is a continuing task of psychoanalytic thinking to attempt to generate concepts and consistent language that are helpful in understanding the interplay between phenomena in an intrapsychic sphere (e.g. thoughts and feelings) and phenomena in the sphere of external reality and interpersonal relations (e.g. the reality of the other person in an object relationship as opposed to the psychologic...
متن کاملIntentional attunement: mirror neurons and the neural underpinnings of interpersonal relations.
The neural circuits activated in a person carrying out actions, expressing emotions, and experiencing sensations are activated also, automatically via a mirror neuron system, in the observer of those actions, emotions, and sensations. It is proposed that this finding of shared activation suggests a functional mechanism of "embodied simulation" that consists of the automatic, unconscious, and no...

متن کاملA theoretical review of the concept of superego from the perspective of psychoanalytic approaches
The aim of this research was to investigate the concept of the superego from the perspective of psychoanalytic approaches, in particular the theory of Freud and Anna Freud and other theories of object relations (Klein and Bion) and the British Independent School (Fairbairn and Winnicott). Given the significant role of the pathological superego in psychological disorders, a better understanding ...
